Inspired! Even from the great things that seek to invite my anger and mental crisis. I have realised that the bigger part of my world is not made up of the things that makes its reality. It is in imagination. I have powers to bend my thoughts than to change the reality. In fact, I can’t change the reality for better without beginning with my thought. I mould my thoughts to create a world that is welcoming even at a time I mistakenly quit my underpaying job.
I believe, whatever happens in my life there is a reason. My purpose is born of crisis and pain. This insight makes it easier for me to emerge from a point of no return.
At first, I wondered how I was able to write most of my novel chapters and articles when is disappointment, anger and grief. The secret as Maya Angelou put it is to “make every effort to change things you do not like. If you cannot make a change, change the way you have been thinking. You might find a solution.”
When you lament over a poor decision seeing it as nothing but your stupidity at work, you are like one who just cursed his/her past efforts. I recommend that even when there is nothing but failure in those efforts do not see that failure as foolishness at work. When you learn from failure you get inspiration from where others are cursed not to find it.
I was once a fortunate man, but I lost it, I know not how. But fortunate means that a man has assigned to himself good fortune: and good fortune is good disposition of the soul, good emotions, good actions.
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (Book 5)
According to the ancient Stoic above, the soul is the foundation of all good things. If you deprive the soul of its inherent goodness, you won’t be able to cultivate positive emotions. These good emotions are essential because they precede and inspire good actions. In other words, nurturing the soul with goodness is crucial for fostering positive emotions, which in turn lead to virtuous and beneficial actions. Without this foundation, it becomes challenging to achieve true happiness and moral excellence.
I knew, from experiences which had reached me unsought, that there are often emotions, which afford us contentment such as it is in vain to seek in the amusements of the world; and that in these higher joy, there is also kept a secret treasure for strengthening the spirit in misfortune.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Wilhelm Meister Apprenticeship
What von Goethe is saying? Understanding happiness or any positive emotion goes beyond just having felt it before. It’s about the wisdom and experience that enable you to rekindle those emotions when needed. This deeper understanding helps you navigate through grief, allowing you to reach the acceptance phase. With this acceptance, you can prepare yourself to embrace a new future, armed with the knowledge that you can find joy and positivity again. It’s this profound insight that guides you through tough times and helps you emerge stronger and more resilient.
After a crisis, I often feel a surge of inspiration because I have a deep understanding of the emotions involved. This wisdom allows me to see the situation from a different perspective, finding strength and motivation amid adversity. It’s as if the challenges I face unlock a hidden reservoir of resilience and creativity within me, guiding me towards growth and self-improvement.
