When one writes an article “How to become a computer programmer” he does this, more or less, having imagined a target audience. Earning less than $2 a day, a cobalt miner in DRC, although contributing to the tech industry, does not make the grade. Thus, when he puts himself on a journey to be a computer programmer, the cobalt miner’s start is what I consider to be poor. Above him, there is a grade above poor, a grade that can be moved by an educated philosophy of the time and work it’s magic to riches.

When a poor starters are part of the pursuits that are almost exclusive to a demography other than theirs, they need a strategy that can give them continuity. Even when they start again, element of continuity should be there. This makes the whole journey endurable.
Allow me to invite a Me Story:
2020 became my fourth year of trying to come up with a meaningful blog, having given up some for their unsound content or lost one to a cruel guy who found my account not logged out on a library computer. I was aged 24, and I now knew that WordPress was the best Content Management System for me. In that year I earned $373 (figures in USD).
WordPress users have two options. The first is WordPress.com, which is Automatic’s cash cow, hosted by the parent company and has a free option with a domain name like blog.wordpress.com instead of blog.com. The free option is where any premium site can retreat to when the blogger fails to pay his annual tribute. Bloggers online say it’s a poor choice. WordPress.org is a second option which is hosted by third-party companies. It lacks a free option but some cheaper providers charge from $40 the first year and $150 upwards in the following years m. This, according to established bloggers, is the best choice
Convinced by WordPress’ promise of freedom to install plugins and use any monetising platform I wanted, I ignored my financial background. In 2022, April I lost a promising site having failed to pay for the hosting fee for the second year. The first-year $40 was a bribe. The figure had since multiplied, and I now needed an excess of $450 for the second year’s hosting fees which I failed to secure.
A poor starter does not have to follow the best choices. He simply needs a choice that can give him continuity where failure is rife. Where continuity is guaranteed, failure is preserved. For one does not only need to fail, he must keep seeing the prototype of an engine he had been working on when he failed. If there are concepts sketched on paper they remain relevant.
I learned that failure is quick to forgive those who preserve it than those who don’t. You learn from past failures that are not erased from your view. If it’s a wine that turned into vinegar you still need to keep tasting it, feel it and see it.
Things that are enemies of continuity:
- Being all over: You can’t jump to any raft that you hear or think of. An idea coming into your mind is not begging you to adopt it now. It may be telling you the things you need to do in the future. Listen to it carefully.
- Adopting advice that is for people with superior resources: Sometimes when endowed people tell you what works they are simply giving you a list of what works for them and not for you. Be wise.
- Living a life as a pleaser: Follow your plans and your confusion. Do not be led astray.
- Lacking patience: Continuity is attracted to patience. Avoid giving up early. New technologies and new knowledge will emerge to help those who have been at it for a long time.
In continuity you are able to create a system that does not only sustain and develop you but is incompatible with new systems. It is is only continuity that makes your system’s benefits increase over time.
